Kaziranga National park is exactly the kind of place where ‘Nirvana seekers’ achieve their wisdom from the perfect balance of tranquility and adventure or beauty and wilderness. It is one of a kind of world heritage sites where world’s two third of one horned rhinoceros roam around freely often accompanied by gigantic elephants or dwarfish pigs or deers. The blissful wildlife sanctuary dream is only disturbed by the ferocious tigers who come out of their shelters to seek some yummy meat. And that is all that defines Kaziranga life! I recently visited the park just at the last day of closing of Kaziranga national park and had a gala time discovering the wild life along with my own consciousness. Here are a few clicks exclusively for you straight from this world heritage wildlife sanctuary.
Kanha National Park Mandla, Madhya Pradesh was the second National Park and first Tiger reserve that I have had ever visited and Kaziranga National Park would be the third one which is located in civil districts of Nagaon, Golaghat and Sonitpur of Assam, India.
It is situated at the floodplains of mighty river Brahmaputra and so the park gets routinely flooded which basically help the park habitat to maintain its maximum productivity and sustaining wild animals at high densities.
The unique National park and World heritage site has long elephant grasses and has been successful in conserving Great Indian one horned Rhinoceros,Royal Bengal Tiger,Asian Elephant,Wild buffalo and swamp deer and many other species.
World largest population of Great Indian one horned Rhinoceros and Wild Buffalo is here at Kaziranga wildlife sanctuary so many so that you can see these exotic animals roaming freely around here. The Rhinos looked pretty docile and kept them to themselves totally ignoring my constant clicks.
You really don’t need any reasons to visit such exotic locations in your own country which will not only fill you with ever lasting adventures but also connect you with your own soul.
This 1002 sq km national park is also a paradise for bird lovers. As it is an important bird area with more than 480 species of birds including 25 globally threatened species. Elephant safari is a must for any traveller. Though you can enjoy jeep Safari into the Kaziranga National Park too. Both have different flavours though I skipped the jeep Safari. The tickets for Elephant rides costed me 1700 bucks.
Best Time to visit Kaziranga
As Kaziranga has tropical weather which gets hot and humid during summers and rest of the time it’s flooded so the best time to visit Kaziranga National Park is from November to April.
How to Visit Kaziranga
Nearest airport is Jorhat where Jet Airways and Indian Airline flights are easily available. Guwahati is some 250Kms so the road trip can easily be planned from there which will provide you some nature fresh views of swinging coconut trees and Banana trees throughout the way. Most of the road journey is on NH37. It took us almost 5 hour to drive down there from Guwahati. Also all the major airlines are connected with Guwahati Airport which is connected to Kolkata Airport for international arrivals.
Where to stay at Kaziranga
I stayed at a newly opened government guest house La Vue at Bagori which is very close to the Safari location and situated at heights. It’s not a very lavish 5 star hotel but a modest hotel which is quite ok for a day or two stay as it’s cheap too. Costed us some 7000rs for their suite room which is like two bedroom flat with open terrace with fantastic view. The breakfast and lunches were a bit sad as they did not have so many cuisines which you expect at such exotic locations. The morning breakfast included humble Poori Aloo and while Indian and chinese menu had quite decent food items it was very oily. But it’s a good stay I ll still say better than most resort in that area. Though there are many other hotels and lodges to stay around the Safari Location. During this time of season the weather is pretty pleasant too so overall it made it a lovely vacation break for us.
I look quite spooky in the picture but see it was 5 AM in the morning. Adorning my Zara T shirt and Only leggings with Patch work which kept me pretty warm during the ride. Make sure to carry your stoles always when you go for a ride!.
Every time I visit a forest my beliefs get stronger that Jungles are the natural habitats of men and cities are man made. Travelling enhances your vision broadens your perceptions and give you more wisdom. It’s a must for us mortals. Don’t find excuses. Just pack your bags and hit the roads. Happy Travelling!
