Faujis live life king size. They believe in social get together and Parties more than any regular person do. As Army runs by the rules,protocols and discipline the parties reflect it too. Here I try to present a basic rough guideline of how you can throw a party using minimal resources, please the guests, be in the good books of seniors and above all feel content at the end of the party and Why not? Everything went as you planned! I recently had my Anniversary and going by the norms of Army life we as couple were bound to throw a fauji party, Here is how I planned the party

Party Idea

The logistic for any party should be planned at least fifteen days before unless you suspect bachelors raiding your kitchen which is technically not a party. Think of a theme first. For a casual party like a House warming, Anniversary or even a Birthday party there can hundreds of themes ranging from Retro,carnival,casino,bollywood for an adult party to Army,Alice in Wonderland,Unicorn,Disney,Book nerds etc party themes for kids party. For formal parties I would suggest you to stick with basic formal simple party with Indian menu.

Invitation card

In Army invitation card is a must until and unless you are inviting just your close friends. Invitation card can be of various format. You can use classic white card invitation or simply print out a fun one suiting your party theme. Start with quotes or simply ‘request the pleasure of your company’ or request the honour of your presence’ if senior officer has to be invited. mention time,date,venue,dress code clearly. Here are two of the invitation card I designed for my anniversary party.

Preparing the guest list

Prepare a guest list which comprise a set of people who can actually interact with each other leaving you totally free to look after the party well. Until and unless it is a casual party at your house don’t invite your civil friends. Apart from the invitation card don’t forget to call them personally for the personal touch. If possible hand over the party invitation card personally to the seniors at their homes only.

Planning the food menu

Any party is incomplete without the food. Planning the party menu is of utmost importance. You should categorize the party menu into four parts drinks,snacks,main course and desserts. Drink should contain hard liquors like wine,beer,whiskey,cold drinks,mock tails,cocktails and pocket juices like frooty and chips for kids id they are invited into the party. Snacks should comprise of one to two hot snacks,one to two cold snack and at least one non veg snack. Also include finger food available to your guest something they can pop into your mouth in the blink of their eyes. Garlic peanuts,masala peanuts,wafers,dips are some popular snacks. The Indian main course can comprise of Roti/Naan, Rice/jeera Rice/Pulav, Daal Makhani/Rajma/Chole, One aalo sabji, one paneer sabji,one green veg, one non vegetarian item along with pickel,papad,chutney. If you are throwing a themed party then oriental or english food can be catered too.

Party Dress

Stick to the dress code mentioned on the invitation card. If it is a formal party and dress code is not mentioned on the card prefer wearing Saree for the mess party and Salwar Suit for a house party. For a casual fun party you can dress like a pirate,sailor,adorn westerns and what not suiting the occasion. I chose to wear one very springy saree in yellow and green with embroidered borders for my anniversary party.

Party games

It is not only fun but also wise to keep one to three party games. You can plan various party games for adults,party games for kids,party games for ladies and prepare the activities. you can get plenty of part games videos online which can help plan your own customized party games. You can have paper games,group activity games,one minute games or even a question answer game depending upon various party themes. Make sure to gift little prizes to the winner of the game. If kids are invited then also prepare one exclusive games for kids. I planned two party games but due to time constraints we conducted only one game which was simple blow the ball one minute game. But everybody thoroughly enjoyed it and participated enthusiastically.

Party Decoration

If you are organizing a party in the mess then you are not supposed to touch the arrangements or even redesign the furniture setup until it is a ladies meet. At your house you can decor the party venue as you feel like. You can either put a party decoration according to the party theme like a little Santa,reindeer,snow etc for a Christmas theme party and disco lights etc for a retro theme party. If you choose to throw a simple basic party at house you can surely use your DIY Home Decoration skill like using goblets and juice glasses as candle holders and arrange them on dining table etc and other personalized items that will surely impress the guest.

Party all night

Try to mingle with every guest and spend some personal time with each one of them. Even if you have waiters try showing snacks to them all by yourself. After the dinner is over don’t forget to offer saunf etc to the guests,if you have kids invited you can offer them chocolates at the end and also return gifts.
